One Degree Away From Brangelina
I don't even know what to file this under it's so random, but I was just reading my beloved { US Magazine } during lunch and spotted a photo taken at the recent Cannes Film Festival of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt engaged in an animated conversation with a really good friend of mine.

Ergo, Brad and Angelina and I are practically BFFs, right? To back up, I have known {Eli Roth} since the early '90s when he and I both worked in New York for two different Broadway producers. He was a film student, hilariously funny, and always great to be around. Fast forward to 2002 when he came to North Carolina to direct a low-budget horror film called { "CABIN FEVER" }, and I came on set for a few days to do some of the stills. I remember thinking at the time, "Bless his heart, these slasher films always go straight to video." Uh, yeah, it went to video after grossing $40 million dollars, spawning a franchise and making him a hot commodity in Hollywood.

I emailed him last fall to see if we could hang out in New York, and he wrote back "Sorry, can't do it because I'm filming in Berlin." The end of that sentence should have been "with Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger and the other castmembers of Taratino's new film { "Inglourious Basterds"}.

(You'll notice that in the shot I took of him on set he's wearing a Cannes T-shirt -- a nice prophetic touch.)

Anyway, just wanted to share that you, dear reader, are now just TWO degrees away from Brad and Angelina. You're welcome! :)

Just Because
I'm trying to blog more often (daily is my goal...), so that gives me a good excuse to post this photo of Lila taken last week.

People often ask me if I have just TONS of photos of my children, and in some respects I do (most of them posted here!), but because I am so picky about photos I have very few daily life "snapshots" -- which means that I do miss things sometimes. There is a wonderful book I highly recommend called { How to Photograph Your Baby }, and the author breaks down some really simple things that parents can do to vastly improve the quality of their photos. Even with a little point-and-shoot camera you can get some really great images with just a simple background and natural light. (Be sure to figure out how to turn your flash OFF on your camera).

Anyway, this was not from a planned session by any means -- I had gone to lunch earlier in the day with { Katie } on Tate Street, and wandered into { Design Archives }, a wonderful local vintage clothing store. A perfect pink dress was hanging near the front of the store -- stiff tea-party dress fabric, lots of pleats and little flowers, and the tag said, "Pink Toddler Dress, 1958." How could I resist?

Lila tried it on that evening and wanted to wear it to our neighborhood park (that's my girl!), and I grabbed my camera on the way out the door. I will confess that since Lila NEVER wants to look into my lens -- it is kind of intimidating-looking, I admit -- I asked her to look and see if she could see a bunny inside my camera. Cruel mommy, I know. But it worked! She gave me the best Lila-looking-for-a-bunny look ever:

Neat Party Idea: Pizzas Made On Site
Breana and Scott are getting married next year, so to celebrate their engagement they hosted a dinner in Chapel Hill last weekend. Both culinary students and food aficianados, the couple's menu was exquisite (*see Scott's recipe for an amazing vinaigrette below). The neatest thing was that they had two artisan bakers come and bake fresh pizzas for everyone in the family's outdoor brick oven. I'll be doing their engagement session in a few weeks, so check back for more photos:

Breana LOVES dill, so Scott has created one of the best salad vinaigrettes I have ever tasted, and he was kind enough to share his recipe:
Scott's Special Honey-Dill Vinaigrette:
2 cloves garlic
huge handful of fresh dill
half as much fresh tarragon
blend in a Cuisinart. when well blended, pour in white balsamic vinegar to the bottom of the top blade.
Add:
TBS honey
TBS Dijon mustard
blend again, then add salt and pepper to taste
final step: while blending, drizzle in olive oil until emulsified to the desired consistency.

The gorgeous bride and bridesmaids:

I can put you in touch with the two artisan bakers if you'll { email me } -- in the meantime, does anyone know of a caterer or baker who does this on-site with a portable oven? If so, please share in the comments below.

Molly & Mike Get Married
I hope everyone had a wonderful three-day weekend! I had a great time on Saturday at Molly & Mike's wedding in Chapel Hill, and here are a few favorites for starters -- I will add a few more soon, but wanted to share. Her beautiful flowers were by { Tre Bella }. Enjoy!

Engagement Session Sneak Peek
I couldn't resist posting a couple of favorites from my session yesterday with Bronwen and Sean. Their wedding is in October, and when we first talked last year about what might be fun for an engagement session she and I both said "Mad Men!" I love that era for lighting and costume, and would give pretty much anything to get to hang out on the set, so it was fun to create our own little world. What amazingly good sports they were to play around with being characters with mysterious stories...I'll post the rest next week. Stay tuned!
