Baby Hunter
It is with great joy that I share these photos of my dear friend's new baby, Hunter. His mother, Megan, has been such an angel in my life and in the life of our whole family. I have needed lots of help and advice as a new mom, and when Joaquin came home at 8.5 months old I was 9 weeks pregnant and more than a little freaked out about the changes in our lives. I found her website Preferred Childcare in October 2006 and since then have been blessed with numerous of her amazing caregivers. She and they have nurtured our babies (and Paul and me!) from Joaquin's arrival home to Baby Lila's first few hours (four of our regular sitters even came to visit us in the hospital). I was honored to be among the first calls Megan made when she found out she was pregnant (OK, maybe I was like 20th or 30th....), and I could not wait to train my lens on this beautiful, sweet boy. Congrats to you all, and thank you for all you do!

Alexandra & Danny's Wedding
Danny and Alexandra met when they were both in the 7th grade, and the way he tells it, Danny took one look at Alexandra and knew that he was going to marry her someday. Alexandra took a little longer (fourteen years, in fact) to be convinced, but when they said their vows in the very church where her parents were married in 1971, there wasn't a dry eye in the house!
Alexandra and I did a bridal portrait session in early July. What a beauty!
The reception was at Chinqua-Penn Plantation, which was built in the 1920's by Thomas Jefferson Penn. I wanted to try and imagine the house in its former life:
Meanwhile, back to the getting ready room for a moment: Alexandra is getting her PhD in Art History at Duke, so I wanted to try and photograph her so that she seemed to occupy the very paintings she has studied over the years. She is so beautiful, and her neck indeed reminds me of something Degas would have painted!
One of Alexandra's favorite things about family reunions is the dessert table, which is always crowded with homemade cakes and treats made by her relatives. A special feature at the reception was a table with just such a selection, all made by her beloved aunts and family friends:
And of course there was a big cake, made by Wanda Overman, who also happens to be a neighbor and friend of the bride's family. I love the perfect Carolina blue:
There were bluegrass musicians welcoming the guests into the gates of the estate, and a sweet first dance:
With my camera and flash set on rear-curtain sync, I got this neat ghostly exit shot -- perfect for the stately and history-laden mansion. Congratulations, Alex and Danny!

Baby Zoe Is 3 Months Old
Another delightful baby portrait session. You might remember Zoe from her two-week-old session in the spring. Isn't she darling?
This was near the end of our shoot, and I think she was trying to protest having her photos taken:

Oops! One last favorite that I forgot to upload earlier -- those are her big brother Andreas' fingers gently adjusting her hairbow. He melts my heart, too!

best seats in the house
It's been a long time since I've been to a stadium rock concert, and an even longer time since I sat in the front row/mosh pit. Back in the day, I had nosebleed seats to see The Police, The Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, yes, even Journey. And then during an unfortunate stretch in the '80s I saw (heaven help us) Flock of Seagulls, The Fixx, The Stray Cats, Haircut 100, and, well, it just goes down from there.
So it took me back to my days as a whoo-whoo-ing screaming fan when I got to go to the Greensboro Coliseum today and see this:

For those of you who don't yet have pre-schoolers, this awesome band was The Wiggles and -- I'm not afraid to say it -- they TOTALLY RULE. I can already see how Joaquin will be embarrassed by me in his teenage years (if not sooner), because I was singing along to all the songs, loudly. It did cross my mind at one point, "Maybe I need to get out more."
Here's a last shot of Anthony, one of the Wiggles foursome. He's a married dad of three, 45 years old, and, to those of us with crushed Goldfish crackers, handi-wipes and pacifiers in our purses, that spells "Dreamboat!"

Another New Link
We are slowly but surely adding new links to flesh out this new site, but it's easy for them to get buried. To make them easier to find in the short term, I will post them as they get created.
